Perhaps most significant are the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003eThree Choruses of Georgy Sviridov\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e (1915-1998), composed during a time when sacred music was still actively suppressed by the Soviet regime. The three works by Peter Tchaikovsky, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003eMilost' mira\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e (A Mercy of Peace), \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003eAngel Vopiyashe\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e (The Angel cried), and\u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003e Hymn in Honor of SS. Cyril and Methodius\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, are also strong statements of the Russian faith and expression through music.  \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cb\u003eGloriae Dei Cantores f\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cspan\u003eirst toured Russia (then part of the U.S.S.R.) in the spring of 1990, to re-introduce Russian sacred choral music to their concert halls for the first time since the Russian Revolution of 1917, and participated in several liturgies of the Russian Orthodox Church.
