11/16 x 9/16 inch satin finish sterling silver heart shaped Miraculous Medal on an 18-inch stainless steel rhodium plated chain. The pendant is heart shaped with carved out detailing and a blue enameled oval of Mary in the center. Surrounding Mary on the oval are the words, "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee." On the back of the enameled center in a brushed finish is the letter M, representing Mary, surmounted by a cross representing the sacrifice of Jesus, and surrounded by twelve stars that represent the twelve apostles. The origin of the miraculous medal comes from the visions Saint Catherine Laboure experienced in the year 1830 of Mary Immaculate.
